River Partners: Restoration Planner

Job Title: Restoration Planner.
Organization: River Partners is a private, nonprofit corporation headquartered in Chico, California. River Partners’ mission is to create wildlife habitat for the benefit of people and the environment.
Position: The Restoration Planner will develop new projects and acquisitions, complete environmental documents and permits, and assist with and manage consulting projects. This full time position will be based out of our Chico office and will report to the Restoration Ecologist.
Primary Objectives (Percentages reflect an estimate of time and are subject to change):
• Complete tasks related to planning for restoration projects, studies, and consulting (70%).
• Collaborate with field and biology staff to oversee the implementation of restoration projects (15%).
• Represent River Partners at meetings, conferences, and community events (10%).
• Develop new restoration and consulting projects (5%).
Duties: Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Prepare plans and studies related to restoration and mitigation projects.
• Prepare environmental documentation and permits for restoration plans and projects.
• Experience managing multi-faceted projects, including hiring and overseeing consultants, developing contracts, meeting timelines, preparing and managing budgets, etc.
• Work in a variety of field conditions. Potential need to work on weekends and overtime to complete projects according to deadlines.
• Cultivate and maintain good relations with agency personnel, contractors, funders, landowners, and neighbors.
• Represent River Partners at meetings and conferences.
• Complete tasks assigned as part of the annual operational review.
• Develop new restoration projects including proposal development, site evaluations, budgets, scopes of work and project presentations.
• Cultivate and track new funding sources.
• Other duties as required.
Skills & Qualifications: The successful candidate should be able to:
• Demonstrable writing skills for proposals, reports, and plans.
• Develop creative solutions to problems with limited information.
• Rapidly learn new skills.
• Facilitate and communicate at public meetings.
• Work autonomously and with minimal guidance.
• Work under multiple deadlines while maintaining flexibility necessary to handle changing priorities and a variety of projects.
• Accurately process and synthesize complex scientific data into practical on-the-ground strategies for restoration, monitoring, and management.
• Demonstrate experience working with regulatory and permitting agencies in the Sacramento Valley.
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience with the completion of environmental compliance and permitting (i.e. CEQA, NEPA, 1600 permits, encroachment permits, etc.)
• Communicate clearly and consistently with all members of the organization.
• Cooperatively work with and maintain good working relationships with field crews, coworkers, and the public.
• Use and navigate word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and other programs competently.
Education and Experience: Minimum Master’s Degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Planning, or a related discipline, with 2-4 years relevant work experience. Candidates with Bachelors Degree and related work experience in relevant areas may be considered.
Term: This is an at-will position.
