Solano Resource Conservation District: Restoration Field Technician

Introduction:
The employer is the Board of Directors of the Solano Resource
Conservation District, and day to day supervision will be under the
Executive Director. The title of the position is Restoration Field
Technician. The position is a full-time non-exempt position with
medical, dental and vision benefits. Retirement benefits furnished
upon completion of a six (6) month probationary period. Employment at
the SRCD is employment at-will. Employment at-will may be terminated
with or without cause and with or without notice at any time by the
employee or the District.

Location:
This position is currently located in the Dixon Field Office of the USDA
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Solano County,
California.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Under the direction of Executive Director, participate in the
implementation and maintenance of several different restoration projects
in Solano County. This work includes mowing and applying herbicides to
control invasive weeds, propagating and planting native plants,
conducting irrigation activities, and working with contracted field
crews. Applicant must be able to work as a team member and also
independently at project sites. Projects include riparian restoration,
hedgerows and vegetated canals, and farm and ranch ponds.

* Under the direction of the Executive Director, provide staff
support at the Conservation Education Center. This work includes
propagating native plants, maintaining nursery stock, controlling weeds,
maintaining the Demonstration Garden and conducting routine facility
maintenance such as sprinkler irrigation installation, greenhouse
repair, and minor construction /carpentry projects. Applicant must be
able to work as a team member and also independently at the Conservation
Education Center.

* Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:

A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Ecology,
Agriculture, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Education or
a related field of study is preferred but not required.

Applicant must have experience working with wildland weed populations.
The ability to operate an ATV mower and utilize a backpack sprayer to
spray herbicides is required. Possession of a Qualified Applicator's
Certificate is preferred. Applicant must have experience working with
native plants and nursery facilities. Experience collecting and
propagating native plants and maintaining greenhouse facilities is
desired. Carpentry and/or electrical skills are preferred. The ability
to speak Spanish is preferred.

Applicant must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Applicant must
have the ability work outdoors in wildland settings, which may include
exposure to insects and wildlife, temperature extremes, and inclement
weather.

Applicant should be a team player with an ability to work with staff,
board members and local landowners who have a diverse range of
backgrounds, motivations and interests. A valid driver's license and
liability insurance is required. To perform the assigned duties, the
employee will be required to work a mixture of evening and day hours, in
the field and in the office. The regular work time will be 8-5, Monday
through Friday, with occasional night and weekend obligations.

Compensation: $34,000 - $40,000/yr DOE
