Save The Bay is the oldest and largest organization working exclusively to protect, restore and celebrate San Francisco Bay. As the Bay’s leading champion since 1961, Save The Bay is committed to making the Bay cleaner and healthier for people and wildlife. Save The Bay wages and wins effective advocacy campaigns to increase public access to the Bay, establish 100,000 acres of healthy wetlands around the Bay, and protect the Bay from today’s greatest threats: pollution and urban sprawl. Position Summary
Save The Bay seeks a creative, experienced Policy Associate to implement targeted campaigns that significantly improve the health of San Francisco Bay. The Associate will manage a regional pollution prevention campaign, and will support efforts to secure and fund 100,000 acres of restored wetlands, prevent Bay fill and inappropriate shoreline development, and increase public access to the shoreline. The Policy Associate will also conduct policy analysis and research, and assist with federal and state advocacy.

The successful candidate has experience and skills in advocacy, organizing, and policy development, is self-motivated and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

This position reports to the Political Director.

Primary Responsibilities
• Manage Save The Bay’s award-winning Keep It Clean! campaign to reduce Bay pollution and improve water quality.
• Represent Save The Bay in legislative and regulatory public hearings, community meetings and other decision-making forums.
• Write and edit advocacy materials, including policy position papers, public comments, fact sheets, talking points and web content.
• Successfully advocate for Save The Bay’s policy goals and priority initiatives with key decision makers, stakeholders, legislative and regulatory bodies, and the media.
• Conduct research on priority Bay issues and effective solutions.
• Serve as a spokesperson for Save The Bay to promote our advocacy campaigns with the media and other appropriate audiences.
• Collaborate with the Political Director to identify priority restoration, policy and legislative opportunities.
• Develop opportunities to mobilize broad grassroots support, build coalitions, and generate participation from Save The Bay’s members, allies and key policy makers on priority issues.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
• Two to three years experience working on issue advocacy campaigns.
• Excellent writing, research, editing, and public speaking skills.
• Passion for Save The Bay’s mission.
• Proven ability to work independently and also to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
• Experience working effectively with elected officials, community leaders, environmental activists, agency officials and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated initiative, creativity and collaborative work style.
• Familiarity with Bay ecology, wetland restoration, agency and legislative processes, and community-based programs.
• Computer proficiency with Windows and Internet research applications.
