Annual Conference 2008

by admin last modified June 23, 2008 15:13

We would like to thank all of our conservation colleagues for making our 10th Annual Conference, Nature Within Reach, such a great success! We hosted over 340 attendees, 40 exhibitors, and 14 sponsors. Our speakers focused on environmental education, the connections between land and people, conservation planning, opportunities to consider issues such as transit and housing in land conservation work, projects funded over the past year, and much more. We sought to inspire and educate our guests about the many different faces and methods of land conservation in the Bay Area. Our conference also provided an opportunity for conservation professionals to connect with one another and learn about emerging issues in open space protection. We look forward to our second decade of conferences next summer, and look forward to working with you throughout the year.

2008 Conference Masthead

Our Tenth Annual Open Space Conference on May 21st, 2008 was a great success!

Thank you all for making our conference such a great opportunity to connect with conservation colleagues!

Nature within reach is what makes the Bay Area so special, yet it also presents us with some of our most pressing challenges as the region continues to grow. Local agriculture, urban parks, water and air quality, climate change, wildlife corridors - there are many important reasons that the Bay Area needs to maintain and increase access to natural areas.

This year's Conference featured noted speakers and presentations that showcased regional planning efforts and demonstrated creative approaches to ensuring both cultural and biological diversity. Attendees learned about transformational leadership involving individuals and groups coming together to change the economic, environmental and social landscape of the region by rediscovering their communities' vision and developing new paths and unconventional alliances to get there.
